New Securities License Requirements

In order to be registered as a Securities Representative, you must pass one or more examinations administered by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authoroty, Inc., formerly known as the NASD) to demonstrate competence in the areas in which you will work.

FINRA License Requirements:

  • Complete the recommended exam-prep course.
  • BrokerTrainingSchool.com will arrange for you to schedule and complete your exam.
  • Complete a background check. The required fingerprint cards will be sent to you by BrokerTrainingSchool.com.
  • Take and pass 2 exams. You will take a national product exam and a state-specific (Series 63) exam.

Licensing Programs

Series 7: General Securities Representative
Prepares you to sell corporate, municipal, and U.S. government securities, options, direct participation programs, investment company products, and variable contracts.
Prerequisite: None

Series 6: Investment Company/Variable Annuitie Contracts Representative
Prepares you to sell investment company securities (mutual funds) and variable contracts (variable annuities and variable life). Series 6 is NOT needed if you obtain Series 7.
Prerequisite: None

Series 65: NASAA Investment Advisor
Required if you will be acting as or soliciting for the service of investment advisors and soliciting the purchase or sale of securities within certain states.
Prerequisite: None

Series 66: NASAA Uniform Combined State Law
Combined state law examination for those who are Registered Invenstment Advisors and have passed the Series 7.
Prerequisite: None

Series 63: NASAA Uniform State Law
Prepares you to sell in a specific state. The exam may be required in addition to other exams. This is not needed if you obtain Series 66.
